Shockers Youth Sports Development
In the winter of 2009 John Mallee founded Shockers Youth Sports Development, Inc. A 501-c3 nonprofit baseball program focused on providing a positive learning environment that encourages sportsmanship, teamwork and quality training to the youth of Northwest Indiana.
John’s Vision
As a student, a player and instructor of the game, baseball has touched every aspect of John Mallee’s life. It has taught him many of life’s most important skills, such as teamwork, respect, hard work and determination. John firmly believes that a child’s exposure and participation to organized sports is critical in developing the next generation of community-conscious, college-ready student-athletes.
Baseball, like many of today’s organized sports has become a very expensive sport to participate in. The high costs of bats, gloves, training and team fees are making the game cost prohibitive to many families. John’s personal vision is to allow every child the opportunity to play baseball, while receiving the very best instruction in Northwest Indiana at little to no cost to the player.
Community
Since 2009 his youth organization teams have donated their used sporting equipment, such as catchers gear, batting helmets and baseballs to local community programs that need additional equipment.
The teams compete in Cancer awareness tournaments each year and have donated money back to cancer research that they have raised, also wearing pink uniforms for awareness.
John’s teams have helped raise hundreds of dollars for charitable organizations such as Jacobs Closets, toys for tots donations, as well as organizing coat donation drives for local centers during the winter months.
